Man City vs Cardiff - Premier League preview and team news

By Stephen Donovan

Friday 17 January 2014

In-form Manchester City will be looking for their seventh consecutive Premier League win when they take on relegation threatened Cardiff City.

Hailed as the best team in world football by Blackburn Rovers boss Gary Bowyer after a 5-0 thrashing of the Championship side in the FA Cup, Man City are firing on all cylinders at the moment, and look as formidable as ever now that Sergio Aguero is back from injury. Without the Argetine, they did ride their luck away to Newcastle United in their previous Premier League outing, but at home they are almost unbeatable.

The last thing that new Cardiff manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needed after being condemned to a place in the relegation zone by West Ham United was a visit to Man City. His predecessor, Malky Mackay, masterminded an amazing win over the Citizens in August, but repeating such a feat looks implausible for the Welsh club, who go to Manchester United in their next top-flight fixture.

Aguero could make his first Man City start since December 14, and Stevan Jovetic could be on the bench. However, Samir Nasri will be out for eight weeks after sustaining a knee ligament injury at Newcastle.

Cardiff could hand a debut to new signing Mats Moller Daehli, but Jordon Mutch and Andrew Taylor both face fitness tests.
