Top 5 Players to watch in Week 22 of the Premier League

Bookmark and Share

By Stephen Donovan

Friday 17 January 2014

With important games at the top and bottom of the Premier League, nearly every game looks intriguing, and these players could have a major role to play in Week 22:

Sergio Aguero

Sergio Aguero

Manchester City have hardly slipped up since Aguero sustained an injury in the middle of December, but now that the Argentine is back, he can resume his devastating striker partnership with Alvaro Negredo and dominate opposition defences. Cardiff City will go to the Etihad Stadium and put in a great deal of effort, but they may find that Aguero is too hot to handle.

Brede Hangeland

For a side that has the Premier League’s worst defensive record and faces a trip to leaders Arsenal on Saturday, Hangeland’s return to fitness is very timely for Fulham. Without their long-serving defender and captain, the Cottagers have shipped goals at an alarming rate, and his calming influence should make their afternoon at the Emirates Stadium that little bit easier, but it does not guarantee that they will take something from the game.

Daniel Sturridge

Daniel Sturridge

Another Premier League striker who returns after an injury lay-off, Sturridge, like Aguero, marked his comeback with a goal after coming off the bench. His partnership with Luis Suarez at Liverpool is also pretty deadly, so Aston Villa will have their work cut out on Saturday as they look to prevent the former Chelsea man from adding to his goal tally.

Nikica Jelavic

After over a year of firing blanks, and months of being left out of the team, Jelavic was given the chance to leave Everton, and joining Hull City represents a brand new start for the Croatian striker. Tigers boss Steve Bruce will be hoping that he can hit the ground running just like he did at Everton, to aid his side in attack, as they are among the lowest scoring sides in the Premier League this season.

Adnan Januzaj

Adnan Januzaj

During these somewhat difficult times for Manchester United, teenage winger Januzaj’s potential has still shone through, and he was the creative force behind the win over Swansea City last time out. On Sunday though, he faces a major test against Chelsea, where he will be required to do his fair share of defensive duties, but will fancy his chances of causing the full-backs a few problems.
