Wolfsburg sign Chelsea midfielder De Bruyne

Chelsea attacking midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has completed his move to Wolfsburg, signing a five and-a-half year deal with the Bundesliga outfit, Sky Sports has reported.

Kevin De Bruyne

The 22-year-old Belgian leaves for an undisclosed fee, thought to be in the region of £16m. He leaves Stamford Bridge despite having only made nine first-team appearances for Chelsea after joining in January 2012, while Andre Villas-Boas was the manager.

Upon arrival, he was quickly loaned back to previous club Genk, and he then spent the whole of last season with Werder Bremen. When Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho selected him for his first game back in charge in August, it looked as though De Bruyne had forced his way into the first-team, but those thoughts were quickly disproved, as he only appeared sporadically in the weeks and months prior to his departure.

After completing the move to Wolfsburg, De Bruyne said: "I got along with Mourinho quite well. Tactically he's a very strong. In the summer he convinced me to stay, although there was a nice bid from Dortmund on the table.

"My pre-season was good, my first game too, but I still don't know why I lost my place after the game against Manchester United. I don't regret my transfer to Chelsea. I played a good season in Bremen, I grew as a player, it was also a learning process."
