Everton to beat West Ham to capture of Monaco star Traore

Everton look set to beat West Ham to the signing Ivory Coast international Lacina Traore on loan, according to The Express.

Lacina Traore

Toffees boss Roberto Martinez is keen to bolster his forward line following the £5.5 million sale of Nikica Jelavic to Hull and is close to sealing the signature of the 6ft 8ins striker.

West Ham looked favourites to sign the forward after being granted a work permit earlier this week, but their Premier League position has let Everton snatch the player from them.

The 23-year-old decided on the Merseyside club as he would prefer to help the side qualify for the Champions League rather than face the relegation battle with the Hammers.

Traore joined Monaco from Russian giants Anzhi Makhachkala for £8.6 million earlier this month but is being immediately sent out on loan.

The young striker will be seen as an alternative to fellow on loan striker Romelu Lukaku as Martinez hopes to secure his potent attacking options.

Despite signing for Everton, Traore faces a race to be ready for club action having joined during the winter break in the Russian League season and could be short of match fitness.
