Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla believes the Gunners deserve to be top of the Premier League table, Sky Sports has reported.

Cazorla scored both goals in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Fulham on Saturday to maintain the London club’s single-point lead over Manchester City.

The Spain international admits that while Arsenal were not among many peoples’ favourites for the title in August, no one can deny Arsenal are the rightful leaders.

“At the moment, we are showing that we are up there with them,” Cazorla said.

“Maybe at the start of the season nobody put us up as high as Manchester City or Chelsea, maybe because of the signings they made.

“But it is ultimately demonstrated on the pitch and, right now, Arsenal are above them and our objective is to keep fighting with them.”

Cazorla added however that he made the likes of City and Chelsea roughly equal contenders for the title.

“It is true, they are big favourites as well.

“We need to continue this form, because of Chelsea and Manchester City.

“Right now, in the Premier League, we are top because, up until now, we have been the best team.

“In the Premier League it is about consistency, who has been the best throughout the season and, right now, we are at a very good level.”

Arsenal haven’t lost in the league since mid-December, when they were beaten 6-3 at the Etihad Stadium by Manchester City. Their next league game comes against Southampton at the end of January.
