Liverpool to bid for Salah
Liverpool are ready to make an offer for Basel winger Mohamed Salah, the Daily Telegraph has reported.
Brendan Rodgers has been keen on signing the 21-year-old Egypt international since the opening of the winter transfer window but the £12m valuation of his club deterred an official approach.
But with the window coming to a close Rodgers remains hopeful of adding to his squad, the newspaper claims, with Salah and a defensive player the priorities.
Salah has Champions League experience from his time at Basel and scored against Chelsea in both of the meetings between the sides this season.
He equalised for Basel in the 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge in September and scored the only goal of the game November’s return match.
The victories were not enough to send Basel through to the next stage of the competition but the Swiss side are in the Europa League, where they will play Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Liverpool are currently fourth in the Premier League table following their 2-2 draw with Aston Villa on Saturday.
The Reds are level on points with Tottenham Hotspur and two ahead of Everton, but have played a game more than their Merseyside rivals.
