Newcastle braced for PSG offer for Cabaye

Newcastle United are readying themselves for an offer from Paris Saint-Germain to sign France international Yohan Cabaye, the Daily Telegraph has reported.

The fee on the table is expected to be between £21m and £26m and the newspaper claims Magpies owner Mike Ashley would be inclined to accept the offer.

Cabaye has two years remaining on his Newcastle contract as of this summer and has shown little intention of signing a new deal.

Rather than lose Cabaye on the cheap, Ashley would rather sell in the middle of the season, having rejected a bid of just over £10m from Arsenal in August.

Cabaye was angered by Newcastle’s decision to turn down the Gunners’ approach and missed the opening matches of the season but has been successfully returned to the set-up by manager Alan Pardew.

Newcastle have denied to the Telegraph that PSG have already lodged their interest in Cabaye but are said to be fully aware of the situation.

The Tyneside club would only let Cabaye go once a replacement has been identified and signed, the newspaper adds.

Cabaye has been at Newcastle since 2011, moving to the North East from Lille, where he won the Ligue 1 title.

The 28-year-old has made 93 appearances for Newcastle, scoring 18 goals.

He would be eligible for PSG’s Champions League campaign when the competition resumes after the winter transfer window, with PSG drawn against Bayer Leverkusen.
