Tottenham plot swoop to re-sign Fulham striker Berbatov

Tottenham are reportedly keen on re-signing Fulham striker Dimitar Berbatov in a cut-price £1.5m deal, according to The Telegraph.

Dimitar Berbatov

The Bulgarian was a favourite during his first stint at White Hart Lane before departing for Man United for around £30m in 2008, before moving on to Fulham in 2012. Spurs boss Tim Sherwood allowed Jermain Defoe to sign for Toronto FC of the MLS. While the England striker remains at the club for now, he will join up with his new team-mates at the end of February – and so Spurs could be keen to sign a replacement ahead of time.

They either bring in a new face this month or face the rest of the season a player down, and Berbatov is believed to fit the bill of what the club are looking for.

Sherwood is not thought to be overly keen on signing a new striker, having reportedly told the board that he would be happy to see the season out with the players already at the club. Chairman Daniel Levy, however, has started eyeing up potential signings despite his manager’s misgivings. It is believed that Berbatov would cost only around £1.5m – a fraction of the transfer fee the club received six years ago when the player departed – as his contract expires at the end of the season, but he would want his £80k-per-week wages matched should he choose to return.

The 32-year-old is believed to be keen on a return to White Hart Lane, however, and so Spurs could look to move quickly.

still a decent player, would not mind seeing him at spurs for another season, now he must realise that other top clubs look else where
