Stoke manager Hughes reportedly interested in Aston Villa defender Hutton
Stoke could be set to make a move for Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton, according to The Stoke Sentinel.
The former Spurs defender is on Potters manager Mark Hughes’ wishlist as the Welshman looks to reinvigorate his defensive options in the run-up to the season’s end.
Stoke sit just four points above the relegation places, yet occupy 13th place – highlighting the close nature of the lower half of the Premier League table this season.
Hutton has struggled in recent times at Villa Park, and seems to have fallen completely out of contention in manager Paul Lambert’s plans, and Hughes could be set to offer the Scotsman a chance to rejuvenate his career at the Britannia Stadium this month.
One problem with a potential deal, however, is that Stoke already have an established central defensive partnership in Geoff Cameron and Erik Pieters, and so the deal could be more to provide additional strength in depth – potentially falling short of Hutton’s own personal ambitions.
He has made six Scotland appearances this season, but has failed to turn out for the Villa Park outfit. He has spent spells on loan at Nottingham Forest and Mallorca during his Villa tenure.
