West Brom vs Everton - Premier League preview and team news

By Stephen Donovan

Monday 20 January 2014

Pepe Mel takes charge of his first game in charge on West Bromwich Albion on Monday in what looks set to be a tough match against high-flying Everton.

The Hawthorns

Watching his new team in action at Southampton last time out will have told Mel that there is work to be done. The former Real Betis boss is undoubtedly inheriting a talented squad, one which has achieved two consecutive top half finishes, but this time around the Baggies find themselves in a relegation battle, and have just allowed one of their main goal threats to leave in Shane Long.

Everton come into this match in sixth place, but a victory would be enough to lift them back into the top four after Liverpool failed to win against Aston Villa on Saturday. Almost everything is going smoothly on the pitch for Roberto Martinez at present, and a number of wonderful strikes have given them the points recently, including two in their last game against Norwich City.

West Brom have doubts over striking duo Stephane Sessegnon and Victor Anichebe, meaning that Nicolas Anelka or Matej Vydra could be handed rare starts.

Aiden McGeady could be given his Everton debut, but Ross Barkley, Antolin Alcaraz, Arouna Kone and Darron Gibson are all sidelined by injury.
