Everton close to sealing Traore loan deal

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has said that he hopes Monaco striker Lacina Traore will join the club on loan in the next few days, BBC Sport has reported.

Lacina Traore

Speaking after Everton’s 1-1 draw away to West Bromwich Albion on Monday evening, Martinez revealed that Traore had already passed a medical, despite carrying a minor hamstring injury.

West Ham United had previously looked the most likely team to sign Traore on loan, successfully applying for a work permit, but Everton look set to beat them to it with Martinez desperate to sign a new striker, having allowed Nikica Jelavic to join Hull City and with Arouna Kone likely to miss the rest of the season.

Everton will now apply for a work permit of their own, and Martinez, who is an admirer of the 6ft 8in Ivorian, is remaining cautious. He said: ‘Every work permit is difficult. We have a very strong case of showing why we need Lacina with us.

"He is a very talented footballer and has already had a couple of moves costing nearly £30m. We need to go through all the necessary routes to try and hopefully we can do that over the next few days."
