Eto’o is a top player, claims Chelsea teammate Cahill

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has described teammate Samuel Eto’o as a top player after the Cameroonian’s hat-trick sealed a memorable 3-1 win for the Blues, Sky Sports has reported.

Samuel Eto’o

Eto’o, who has won the Champions League on three occasions during an illustrious career so far, took his Premier League tally to six for the season with a deflected shot after 17 minutes of Sunday’s game, and made the three points safe with two close range finishes either side of half time.

Prior to that, he had struggled to make a major impact at Stamford Bridge after joining towards the end of August, often being in and out of the team as Jose Mourinho rotated his three strikers, although Fernando Torres had more regularly been preferred.

And Cahill believes that having a player of his ability and experience is helping the squad. He said: "This hat-trick is going to do his confidence the world of good. He is a top, top player, a great performer. He's been involved in massive games in the past. It's great to have a player of that ability - with all his experience - in our squad."
