Southampton lose Ramirez and Lovren to injury
Wednesday 22 January 2014
Southampton’s Dejan Lovren and Gaston Ramirez are facing a lengthy time on the treatment table after suffering ankle ligament injuries, according to BBC Sport.
The Saints pair were both taken off via stretcher in last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Sunderland, just minutes apart from each other.
A statement on the club’s website said: “The players' injuries are still being assessed by the medical team, so we are reluctant to place a timescale on when the duo will be able to return.”
Although Southampton have confirmed the injuries, the club is reluctant to put a timescale on how long the players will take to return to action.
Ramirez, 23, was injured by a Wes Brown challenge just moments before his teammate Lovren had a tangle with Black Cats midfielder Craig Gardner.
The Uruguayan midfielder was taken to hospital for scans on his injury whilst Lovren was treated at the ground. Both players are waiting to find out the extent of their injuries.
The news of the duo’s injuries will come as a blow to Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino, with the club in a state of disruption since the resignation of executive chairman Nicola Cortese last week.
Both players will miss the home match in the FA Cup fourth-round against Yeovil on Saturday.
