Arsenal set to hold talks with Schalke for Draxler
Arsenal representatives are to fly out to Germany over the coming days to hold talks with Schalke 04 over Julian Draxler, who has emerged as a major target for the Gunners, writes the Daily Mirror.
Schalke are highly unwilling to allow their young playmaker to leave, but Arsenal are looking to make one final push to sign Draxler by the end of the January transfer window, to avoid a more competitive battle with many of Europe’s other top clubs for his signature during the summer.
Draxler made his breakthrough in 2011 at the age of 17, when he was part of the Schalke side which reached the semi-final of the Champions League against all odds. Throughout his career for the club, he has scored 26 goals in 133 appearances, and earned 10 caps for Germany.
Although the player is keen to make the move and join three of his international teammates at the Emirates Stadium, it seems unlikely that any deal will happen in January, but Arsenal are prepared to make one final push, as they see Draxler as somebody who could really aid their Premier League title challenge.
