Wenger unhappy at Chelsea Mata sale

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has criticised the Premier League rules that have allowed Juan Mata to make a January transfer window move to direct rivals Manchester United, Sky Sports Report.

The 25-year-old Spaniard Mata, has been out-of-favour at The Blues this season, with manager Jose Mourinho preferring to play Oscar, Eden Hazard and Willian in preference to the ex Chelsea Player of the Year.

But with Manchester United seemingly out of the Premier League title race, Wenger is disappointed that the player can be sold to another rival of Arsenal's after Chelsea have already faced United twice this season:

"I am surprised. Juan Mata is a great player and they sell a great player to a direct opponent. Chelsea have already played twice against Man United, they could have sold him last week.

"I think if you want to respect the fairness for everybody, this should not happen. I can understand completely what Chelsea are doing, and they do not make the rules, but maybe the rules should be a bit more adapted for fairness."

Arsenal are currently two points ahead of Chelsea, and 14 above United, however the Gunners welcome David Moyes' side to the Emirates Stadium on the 12th February, whilst United also play Man City, Liverpool and Everton in the remainder of the season, all games that Chelsea may prefer a Man Utd victory.

Juan Mata looks set to complete a £37m move to Manchester in the coming hours.

Wenger should stop complaining, he is free to go & buy any player he like in the transfer market.
