Everton boss Martinez hopes Falcao injury won't hamper Toffees' Traore pursuit

Everton manager Roberto Martinez still hopes to bring Lacina Traore to Goodison Park this month, despite a major injury to Monaco team-mate Radamel Falcao, reports EvertonFC.com.

Everton had finally been granted a work permit to sign Traore on loan, but Falcao suffered a knee ligament injury the following day – and reports have suggested that this may throw a spanner into Martinez’s workings to lure the 23-year-old to Merseyside.

When asked if the former Wigan manager had concerns that the transfer could now be in jeopardy, Martinez, 40, replied: “I hope not. It was shocking news around European football when a player of the quality of Radamel Falcao gets a long-term injury.

“We hope that is not something that should affect the decision to allow Lacina to go out on loan. I think it would go down to what the player needs in his development and I hope that (Falcao’s injury) would have no bearing on the decision.

“We are really far down the line and it would be a real disappointment not to compete it, so we will see what today brings. We have got the work permit and we feel quite excited about bringing Lacina to Everton.”

Traore only signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with Monaco earlier this month when he joined from Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala, but was allowed to go out on loan straight away.

West Ham were also strongly linked, but the Everton move has been the most strongly reported and looked set to be completed before this potential setback.
