Chelsea agree transfer fee with Basel for Salah

Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Basel winger Mohamed Salah, according to Sky Sports.

Mohamed Salah

Salah had been strongly linked with a move to Liverpool during the current transfer window, but with Juan Mata’s move to Man United now appearing to be all but complete the Blues have moved quickly to hijack Liverpool’s move for the 21-year-old.

Kop boss Brendan Rodgers had been coy about the club’s reported interest in Salah, having not spoken out on any of Liverpool’s dealings in the transfer market this month. It had been rumoured that Chelsea could move to tempt the player to London at the eleventh hour, but it is now being reported that a fee has been agreed and that the deal could be completed post-haste.

The fee, according to BBC Sport, is thought to be around £11m, but personal terms and a medical are yet to be completed.

Salah has a good record against Chelsea, having scored against the Blues during the 2013 Europa League campaign, as well as scoring the only goal of the game when the two sides met in the Champions League in December.

The deal would see Salah become Jose Mourinho's second signing of the January transfer window, after the Portuguese completed the re-signing of Nemanja Matic earlier in the window.
