Birmingham vs Swansea - Match preview and team news

Friday 24 January 2014

Out-of-form Swansea City will be looking for some respite when they take on Championship club Birmingham City for a place in the FA Cup fifth round.

The Blues ended Swansea’s defence of the Capital One Cup with a 3-1 win back in September, but overall it has been a disappointing season for Lee Clark’s men, who lie just five points clear of the bottom three. Home form is a major problem, as they have only won twice in the league at St. Andrews all season, with the latest defeat coming against lowly Yeovil Town last time out.

Swansea were in the news for the wrong reasons this week as it was revealed that police were called to the club’s training ground before their previous game against Tottenham. Their 3-1 defeat in that match means that their third round triumph over Manchester United is time they have tasted victory since early December, a run which has them in a somewhat precarious position in the Premier League.

Birmingham could hand a debut to loan signing Albert Rusnak, while Wade Elliott and Shane Ferguson could return to the starting line-up.

The visitors are still without a number of players including Miguel Michu, Jose Canas, Nathan Dyer and Jonathan de Guzman, although there is a chance that goalkeeper Michel Vorm could return from knee surgery.
