Liverpool aiming to avenge 2012 cup final defeat, says Henderson

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has said that he hopes that he and his teammates will be spurred on by their FA Cup final defeat in 2012 in their attempts to win the competition this season, writes the club’s official website.

Henderson was a regular in Liverpool’s run to the final two years ago under Kenny Dalglish, but the seven-time winners were beaten 2-1 by Chelsea at Wembley to miss out on winning the trophy, and the former Sunderland man is hopeful that the memory of that disappointing performance can inspire his side to success this time around.

He said: "When you go to Wembley and you lose a final it is hard to take. When you see them lifting the trophy, it gives you an extra motivation to come back and put it right. So that's our aim this year - to have a good run in the FA Cup and go and win it.

"We are definitely good enough to do so, but we've just got to make sure we are focused and prepare for every game in the right way.’

The Reds, who have not won the world’s oldest cup competition since their thrilling penalty shootout win over West Ham United in 2006, take on Bournemouth at the Goldsands Stadium in the fourth round in Saturday’s early kick-off.
