West Brom striker Nicolas Anelka has rejected a move to Italian side Lazio in favour of staying at the club, according to Sky Sports.

Despite facing a Football Association charge over his controversial ‘quenelle’ gesture, the Frenchman is determined to stay with the Baggies regardless of the chance to move abroad after a link to Serie A side Lazio.

"Thanks to Lazio and all the other clubs who wanted to sign me these last days. See you this summer if I decide to continue (playing)," said Anelka.

"But the question is why should I leave my club and England? I'm happy here and I did nothing wrong.

"So now it's time to stay focused on my football with my club and I will try my best on the pitch like I always do."

The 34-year-old performed the ‘quenelle’ which is regarded as an anti-Semitic salute after he scored against West Ham last month and could be facing a five match ban if found guilty by the FA.

The forward has denied the charge and insisted that the gesture was not racist and that it was a tribute to his friend, French comedian Dieudonne M’Bala M’Bala who invented it. Dieudonne himself claims it is an anti-establishment gesture, and not anti-Semitic.

Anelka, whose contract runs out in the summer, will continue to be available for selection for West Brom until his hearing.
