The Champions League - Is it Bayern's to lose?

Bookmark and Share

By A Different League staff

Tuesday 28 January 2014

Bayern Munich are entering a period of domination similar to that of FC Barcelona recently. With a huge lead in the German Bundesliga, an extremely experienced and successful coach in Pep Guardiola and a star-studded squad that virtually all other teams can only dream of, Bayern should continue to win many competitions for years to come.

To go along with their dominance in the Bundesliga, Bayern are also favourites with Coral to win this year’s UEFA Champions’ League, at odds of 9/4. Although they will face a sterner test in the European competition, Bayern definitely have a huge chance of repeating last year’s Champions’ League victory, when they beat fellow-Germans Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in the final at Wembley Stadium. In order to do this they will have to avoid any upsets along the way - to read more betting tips or, if you fancy a favourite to lose, have a look at the odds, Coral has them all.

Currently, the bookies have Bayern as a solid favourite to win the 2014 Champions’ League. After coming through a tricky group which featured Manchester City, CSKA Moscow and Viktoria Plzen, Bayern will face a tough test in the first knockout stage when they take on the current English Premier League leaders, Arsenal. The first match will take place in London on 19th February, with the second leg in Munich on 11th March. If Bayern can overcome this difficult task, they may be very difficult for the other teams to stop.

Who Else Could Win?

Although Bayern are definitely the favourite to win this year’s Champions’ League, there are also some extremely good teams that they will have to beat along the way. The most successful team ever in the Champions’ League is Real Madrid, who have won nine titles in their history. Coral has Real as second favourites to win this year’s competition, with odds of 9/2. If Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale can provide the goals, Real could prove a stern challenge.

Pep Guardiola’s old team, Barcelona, also remain in the competition, with odds of 5/1 to win it. With perhaps the world’s best player in Lionel Messi, Barcelona can certainly beat any team they face up against. To complete the top four bookies favourites, English team Manchester City have odds of 11/1 to win the competition. City did beat Bayern in Munich during the group stages, although Bayern had already won the group. One thing is for sure, a match between Bayern and any of these teams would be a treat for any spectators, but it will take an exceptional team to stop Bayern winning this year’s Champions’ League.
