Sherwood rejects talk of Tottenham's Man City thrashing

Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood has insisted he will avoid any mention of his side’s 6-0 thrashing at Manchester City last November, to prevent ‘scaring his players’ ahead of their rematch on Wednesday ESPN have reported.

Sherwood, who was appointed Spurs boss last December, will steer clear of mentioning the heavy defeat to his players in a bid to avoid demoralising them before the two sides meet at White Hart Lane.

But having seen his side only lose once in the seven league games he has taken charge of, Sherwood insists the last meeting between the sides will not be mentioned to his players.

He said: “It will be on their minds, they have got professional pride, but I won't talk about it," stated Sherwood when asked about the 6-0 result.

“It might scare them [if we bring it up]. They need to use that [as motivation] for themselves. I watched that game recently, just to see some of the strengths and weaknesses. Early in the game, there were some weaknesses from us, but they got the early freak goal and we didn't stem the flow. We cannot afford a capitulation like it was at the Etihad.

“I always feel games boil down to individual errors, decision making. It's all about winning our personal battles out there. If we win more personal battles than them, then you generally win the game.”

The loss at the Etihad Stadium saw Spurs continue a poor run of form that ended with Andre Villas-Boas being sacked last month.

Two goals from Jesus Navas and Sergio Aguero, plus strikes from Alvaro Negredo and a Sandro own-goal saw City run riot at home to Spurs as they continued their dominance at home.

The defeat came in a poor period for Tottenham as they suffered further defeats at home to West Ham, Newcastle and Liverpool, which included a 5-0 drubbing from the Merseyside outfit.

Spurs beat City in the encounter at White Hart Lane last season, winning 3-1, thanks to goals from Jermain Defoe, Gareth Bale and Clint Dempsey.
