Dortmund favourites to land Holtby from Tottenham
Borussia Dortmund are lining up a move for Tottenham Hotspur’s out-of-favour Lewis Holtby, the Daily Mail has reported.
Holtby has yet to feature for Spurs in 2014, his last appearance coming against West Brom on Boxing Day when he was substituted after an hour.
The Mail claims Dortmund Coach Jurgen Klopp has asked the club to make a £5m approach for Holtby in an effort to bolster their second half of the season. Dortmund are currently third but hold a tenuous grasp on a Champions League place for next season.
Holtby moved to White Hart Lane in January 2013, signing from Schalke. A return to his former club had been mooted and PSV Eindhoven were also said to be considering an offer, but it is believed Dortmund will clinch the Germany international’s signature.
The 23-year-old has made 38 appearances for Spurs, scoring three goals, having played 70 times for Schalke. Holtby also had loan spells at Bochum and Mainz, having made his international debut in 2010, in a friendly with Sweden.
