Chelsea vs West Ham - Premier League preview and team news

By Stephen Donovan

Wednesday 29 January 2014

Chelsea will be hot favourites to make it eight wins in a row when they play struggling West Ham United in a Premier League London derby.

Jose Mourinho’s team are in such good form at present that they can do without players of the quality of Juan Mata. They once again proved their almost total invincibility at home with a ruthless victory over Manchester United and a narrow though comfortable FA Cup win over Stoke City. Currently in third place, they will be poised to pounce on any slip-ups from Arsenal or Manchester City.

There had been something of a renewed feel-good factor around West Ham when they triumphed at Cardiff City, but that soon evaporated thanks to a fine away performance by Newcastle United in their previous Premier League game. They have managed to do some business at last in January, however, signing Italian duo Marco Borriello and Antonio Nocerino on loan deals.

New Chelsea signing Mohamed Salah will not make his debut, and forwards Fernando Torres and Marco van Ginkel are still absent due to injury.

West Ham could give Borriello and Nocerino their first Premier League appearances, but Mladen Petric and Winston Reid are both out, while Mohamed Diame and Joe Cole are doubtful.

I'm not suprised Petric is out as he was released by Westham before Christmas
