Wednesday 29 January 2014

Cardiff are ready to offload striker Andreas Cornelius back to FC Copenhagen, with the 20-year-old failing to make an impact during his brief stay in Wales according to Sky Sports.

Andreas Cornelius

The Danish international arrived at the Cardiff City Stadium in June 2013 for a club record fee, believed to be around £7.5m, but has managed to make just 11 appearances for the club since then – failing to find the net once in his competitive playing time. He is expected to return to his former club within the next few days.

The official Twitter feed of FC Copenhagen said: “The club is close to sign a deal with @CardiffCityFC striker Andreas Cornelius. More to come in the following days.”

Cornelius made 34 appearances for Copenhagen during his first stint at the club, scoring 18 goals – a return of more than a goal per game.

No goals in 11 games appears at Cardiff represents a very different ratio, however, and the Bluebirds could be set to cash in on Copenhagen’s interest in taking the 6ft 4in striker back to his homeland.

He has scored one goal at international level, having made his Denmark debut in 2012. He has gone on to earn seven caps in total.
