Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Schalke 04 playmaker Julian Draxler, while the Gunners are also interested in bringing Barcelona’s Cristian Tello to the Emirates Stadium on loan, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Julian Draxler

Arsene Wenger’s side have long been linked with a move for Draxler, who s reportedly keen on leaving the Bundeliga club for the Premier League title hopefuls. The 20-year-old began his career with Schalke, coming through the youth system before making his debut in the 2010-11 season.

Talks with Draxler were progressing well on Wednesday night, the newspaper claims, and Arsenal have been handed another boost by the news that the German will return from his current injury much earlier than expected.

The North London club are currently without several midfield players, and Wenger would look to Draxler to provide cover should the deal be completed, although the Frenchman sees the youngster as a forward.

Tello has struggled to establish himself as a regular under Gerardo Martino at Barcelona this season, making just two starts in La Liga, and Wenger is said to be looking to the 22-year-old to provide more pace in attack, with Theo Walcott injured for the rest of the season.
