Tottenham win appeal against Rose sending off against Man City

Friday 31 January 2014

Tottenham have successfully appealed against the red card shown to defender Danny Rose during the club’s 5-1 home loss to Man City, according to Sky Sports.

Rose was dismissed during the second half of the game, giving away a penalty when he felled City striker Edin Dzeko. Yaya Toure scored from the resulting penalty to give City a 2-0 lead at the time.

Video evidence presented to the FA prove that Rose’s boot did make contact with the ball, meaning his challenge was a legitimate tackle, and the red card has now been overturned.

Rose had been looking at a suspension, but is now free to appear for Spurs when they travel to the KC Stadium and take on Hull on Saturday afternoon.

A statement from the FA said: “Danny Rose's one-match suspension has been withdrawn with immediate effect, after the Tottenham Hotspur player's wrongful dismissal claim was upheld by an Independent Regulatory Commission.

“Rose was dismissed in Tottenham's game against Manchester City on Wednesday 29 January 2014, for denying a goal scoring opportunity.”

Spurs were in fine form going into the heavy loss to City, having won their previous four games on the bounce and avoiding defeat in their last six, but will welcome the news of Rose’s potential inclusion in the traditionally busy month of February.
