Senderos leaves Fulham for Valencia
Saturday 01 February 2014
Fulham defender Philippe Senderos has left the club for La Liga side Valencia, completing a permanent move to the Mestalla on transfer deadline day, the London Evening Standard has reported.
Allowing the Swiss centre-back to leave completed a busy day for Fulham, who also parted company with long-serving defender Aaron Hughes, who has moved to Queens Park Rangers, and striker Dimitar Berbatov, who has joined French high-flyers Monaco on loan until the end of the season.
Everton defender John Heitinga comes in to take the place of Senderos and Hughes, while the Cottagers have also boosted their attacking options with the signing of Lewis Holtby on loan from Tottenham, and the arrival of Greek striker Konstantinos Mitroglou.
Senderos moves on after spending three and-a-half years at Fulham, where he helped the club achieve three respectable mid-table finishes in the Premier League. However, this season he has been a regular target for criticism as Fulham have had the worst defensive record in the top flight and lie second from bottom.
For Senderos, it ends a lengthy stint in English football, where he spent six seasons with Arsenal and also a short loan spell at Everton before moving back to London with Fulham.
