New Arsenal signing Kallstrom injured in first training session
Saturday 01 February 2014
Arsenal are set to book a surprise new face on the physio table, as deadline day loan signing Kim Kallstrom has pulled up with a back injury in his first training session and could face up to three months on the sidelines, reports The Daily Mail.
Kallstrom was signed to provide cover for injured Gunners duo Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere, but now looks set to join them on the injury list. The 31-year-old Swedish international will be assessed by the club over the weekend, but Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet believe the injury could keep him out of contention until almost the end of the season.
Kallstrom only arrived at the Emirates after undergoing a medical at the club on Friday, just hours before the transfer deadline. It had been hoped his arrival could at least ease the pressure on the Gunners midfield over the next few games, with Ramsey and Wilshere injured and Matthieu Flamini serving the first game of his three-match suspension when the Reds take on Crystal Palace in north London on Sunday.
Speaking upon his arrival, Kallstrom had said: “I’m here to do my best for Arsenal and to help out the team, so we can achieve good results for the last part of the season.”
Tomas Rosicky could be set to feature in the game after breaking his nose against Aston Villa, however, and is expected to appear wearing a protective mask.
