Vertonghen disappointed by dropped Tottenham points
Jan Vertonghen has said he is disappointed Tottenham Hotspur couldn’t get three points from Hull City on Saturday, the Daily Telegraph has reported.
The Belgium international felt that if Spurs are to stay in the race for a Champions League place, the match at the KC Stadium was one from which they had to take three points.
“We had to win this game,” he said. “The other sides going for the top four are winning these games.”
The result leaves Tottenham in sixth place, three points adrift of Liverpool, who are fourth, and two behind Everton in fifth.
Everton are the next opposition for Tottenham, at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
Vertonghen moved to Tottenham in the summer of 2012, joining from Dutch giants Ajax. The 26-year-old has made more than 50 appearances for the club, scoring eight goals, and has won more than 50 caps for his country.
Hull took the lead against Spurs through Shane Long, his first goal for the Tigers, before Brazil midfielder Paulinho equalised in the second-half.
