Fulham manager Rene Meulensteen believes he has the full backing of the club’s owner Shahid Khan, according to Sky Sports.

The London side currently sit bottom of the Premier League table after losing 3-0 to Southampton on Saturday.

The 49-year-old was appointed as Martin Jol’s successor at the start of December but reports suggest that the club may seek to replace him with technical director Alan Curbishley.

Despite only winning four of his 14 games in charge, Meulensteen believes he has Khan’s full backing as well as the team and said: “I have got the full confidence of the playing squad because they have to do the job."

In order to avoid relegation, the Dutchman states that the Cottagers must win at least half of their remaining 14 Premier League games.

"I would think from the 14 games we should probably have to win half of them if you look at adding up the points where you get to,” added Meulensteen.

“I don't know if six games will be enough, or five games and a couple of draws, but if you cut it in half and you look at it then with seven wins we would be in a much better position."

Fulham have lost their last four matches and will need to quickly turn their poor form around if they hope to avoid the drop.
