John Terry believes Jose Mourinho’s tactical nous was responsible for Chelsea’s top of the table Premier League win over Manchester City on Monday, according to ESPN.

Chelsea took a 1-0 win from the Etihad Stadium, where City were previously unbeaten this season, and Terry feels Mourinho’s intelligence and attention to detail for the big games proved crucial.

“This is where he comes into his own,” Terry told the official Chelsea website. “We spent a good couple of days working on their strengths and weaknesses. They were long sessions for us but they were very worthwhile. It was a really important win.

“City have been phenomenal at home, scoring goals and rolling teams over. For us to come here and not only get three points for ourselves but to show other teams they can be beaten is an eye opener for everyone.”

The result sees Chelsea stay third but move level on points with City who are second, two points behind Arsenal.

Mourinho is in is second spell at Stamford Bridge, having won the league title twice in the three years of his first tenure at the London club.
