West Ham's Carroll has red card appeal rejected

West Ham striker Andy Carroll has seen his appeal for his red card against Swansea rejected, the Daily Mail has reported.

Andy Carroll is sent off by Howard Webb

The striker was sent off after clashing with Swans defender Chico Flores and is set to miss the Hammers’ next three fixtures against Aston Villa, Norwich and Southampton.

After replays of the incident suggested the contact was minimal, the club appealed the decision on Tuesday morning but any chance of it being overturned proved unsuccessful.

It is believed that West Ham will now launch a High Court appeal against the decision with Sam Allardyce desperate to have his centre-forward available for selection.

A club insider told the Mail: “We are incensed by the decision. We’ll get a top QC to look at the whole process and see if it’s anyway flawed. It’s a sad day for football when the cheat who pretended to be hit in full in the face, when he wasn’t, comes out the winner.

“We are without Andy for three crucial games, but we have faith in our squad - and in our manager to get us out of trouble. We are only two points behind Swansea in 11th place and so we have to go into these games in a confident frame of mind.”

The appeal could have seen Carroll’s ban extend to four games on the basis of a frivolous appeal, but the suspension will remain three games.

Flores, who has been with Swansea since the start of last season, has had previous with West Ham after being involved with in a touchline incident with Hammers boss Allardyce in the corresponding fixture last October.
