Stevan Jovetic has insisted he does not regret moving to Manchester City last summer despite spending most of his first season in the Premier League on the injured list, Sky Sports has reported.

Competition to sign the Montenegro international was fierce with a number of Premier League clubs in the hunt, as well as Real Madrid, but Jovetic chose to leave Fiorentina for the Etihad Stadium.

City paid £22m for the forward but thus far the 24-year-old has featured only eight times. Jovetic however insists he will come good and prove his worth at the club.

“I never regretted the choice,” Jovetic told beIN Sport. “Sure these four-five months have been difficult at the beginning because I was not playing, I got injured often, but now it is all behind me.

“I never doubted myself even in the most difficult moments. I knew that I could play in this team and now I have to prove that.”

Jovetic also explained why he chose City over the many other clubs chasing his signature.

“(Matija) Nastasic and I talked a lot, he convinced me. I decided to come here because there is a major project with many players.

“I should have come the year before, but I was happy and I had a nice season with (Vincenzo) Montella and Fiorentina. There was also Real Madrid, but I chose City.”

Jovetic moved to Fiorentina in 2008 from Partizan Belgrade, scoring 40 goals in 134 games for the Serie A side.
