Former Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish believes the Reds are on course for a place in next season’s Champions League, ESPN has reported.

Liverpool are currently fourth, two points clear of Merseyside rivals Everton, a place below, and three points better off than Tottenham Hotspur. Everton play Spurs at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

Dalglish believes Liverpool are so intent on playing in the Champions League that anyone wanting to overtake them are going to have to dig deep.

“Liverpool are in fourth spot right now and someone has to come and take it off them because they're not going to give it up,” Dalglish said.

“They're two points better off than the team below them [Everton] and they have a massively better goal difference. You have to play one game at a time but they are in a very good position at a good time.”

Dalglish had two spells in the Anfield dugout, first taking over as player-manager in 1985 and staying until 1991, and then replacing Roy Hodgson in 2011 and departing a year later.

The 62-year-old won three league titles, two FA Cups and the League Cups during his time as manager.

Yup, just like relegation was almost in Dalglish's hands.
