Crystal Palace vs West Brom - Premier League preview and team news

Friday 07 February 2014

Two teams perilously close to the drop zone, Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion, will be battling it out for three vital Premier League points.

Under Tony Pulis, last season’s Championship play-off winners have proved themselves capable of winning games at home to relegation rivals, as Stoke City, West Ham United and Hull City have all left Selhurst Park with nothing over the last two months. This is another huge game for a side who failed to hold on against leaders Arsenal last time out, as defeat could see them drop back into the bottom three.

The same could be said about West Brom, who are only ahead of their opponents on goal difference going into this game. New Head Coach Pepe Mel is still looking for his first win in charge, but he will have been encouraged by his side’s performance against Liverpool, where they claimed a deserved point. The Baggies need to start turning draws into wins, however, as they have only tasted victory on four occasions in the Premier League all season.

Former West Bromn player Jerome Thomas is still out for Crystal Palace, for whom Glenn Murray could make his first appearance since last season. The man who scored many of the goals which helped them into the top-flight is likely to be among the substitutes.

The visitors are without captain Jonas Olsson and attacking midfielder Stephane Sessegnon, while Nicolas Anelka and Goran Popov are both injury doubts.
