Swansea City captain Ashley Williams has dedicated the win over Cardiff City to former manager Michael Laudrup, who left the club in the days leading up to the fixture, Sky Sports has reported.

Laudrup was replaced by long-serving player Garry Monk and in his first game in charge, the former centre-back oversaw a 3-0 win against the Bluebirds. Wayne Routledge, Nathan Dyer and Wilfried Bony were on the score sheet and in his programme notes, the Swansea chairman, Huw Jenkins, suggested Laudrup was sacked because Swansea were getting away from their core values under the Dane’s leadership.

But Williams said the players have to take responsibility for the poor form in the games prior to Laudrup’s departure and added that Laudrup deserves his share of the credit for the performance in the victory over Cardiff.

“We feel 100 per cent responsible. You might look at the manager or look at his staff but at the end of the day, you are on the pitch,” Williams said.

“There is a bit of a thank you in this performance - that is how I feel. Hopefully he was watching.

“It was not that we didn't perform for him and we performed for Monks - it is just that he did this as well. It is the same team he had and the players he brought in. This is for everyone involved.”

The win sees Swansea in 10th place with 27 points, six points better off than Cardiff who remain in the bottom three. It was only Swansea’s second victory in their last 10 Premier League games.
