Cardiff vs Aston Villa - Premier League preview and team news

Cardiff City will be aiming for the perfect response to their South Wales derby defeat, when they play host to Aston Villa on Tuesday.

There was little for the visiting supporters to cheer at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday as poor defending condemned Cardiff to a humbling loss at the hands of their arch rivals. That result means the Bluebirds are still in the bottom three having taken just three points out of a possible 15 under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who will see this as a must-win game.

A poor performance, and the concession of two soft goals early in the second half at home to West Ham United ensured that Aston Villa still cannot rest easily. Another bad result here will see them edge ever closer to danger, though they will fancy their chances of winning their first ever trip to the Cardiff City Stadium thanks to their impressive record away from home.

Craig Bellamy begins a three match ban after being retrospectively charged for violent conduct after appearing to strike Swansea's Jonathan de Guzman. However, Cardiff do hope to have Andrew Taylor back from injury.

The visitors have doubts over defenders Ryan Bertrand and Ron Vlaar, who are both carrying injuries. Jores Okore and Libor Kozak are definitely out.
