Norwich City striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel has revealed he didn’t want Manchester City’s Yaya Toure charged for kicking him in the recent Premier League meeting between the sides, BBC Sport has reported.

The Football Association ruled on Monday that Toure would not face action for the incident despite referee Jon Moss not seeing what happened. The FA took the case to a three-man panel of former referees and, as a unanimous decision on whether the altercation constituted violent conduct couldn’t be reached, Toure wasn’t charged.

“Good to see Toure not getting suspended,” van Wolfswinkel tweeted. “Players like him belong on the pitch!

“Things happen on the pitch. But we all enjoy watching him play. So get on with it and enjoy the football. That's what it's all about.”

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho had called for Toure to be charged but an FA statement explained why no action will be taken.

“For an FA charge to follow, all three panel members must agree it is a sending-off offence. In this instance, the panel were not of the unanimous decision that it was an act of violent conduct.”

The game ended 0-0, City’s draw allowing Chelsea to move top of the table after they beat Newcastle 3-0 at Stamford Bridge and Arsenal went down 5-1 against Liverpool at Anfield.
