Stoke vs Swansea - Premier League preview and team news
Wednesday 12 February 2014
Stoke City play Swansea City at the Britannia Stadium on Wednesday with a place in the Premier League's top half up for grabs.
Despite taking a reasonable four points from difficult games against Manchester United and Southampton, Mark Hughes' men are still too close to the relegation zone for comfort. Performances have improved since the beginning of February, however, and Peter Crouch, who was on the scoresheet last time out, should relish this game having scored three times in Swansea's last two visits.
The Welsh club should come into this encounter with renewed confidence after comprehensively beating local rivals Cardiff City. Under Garry Monk, the Swans came up with the perfect response to Michael Laudrup's shock dismissal, and the three points came at a crucial time as they were beginning to slide towards the bottom three.
Defender Marc Wilson and forward Marko Arnautovic should return for Stoke, but Robert Huth is still out as he continues his recovery from knee surgery.
Swansea midfielder Jonjo Shelvey is a slight doubt with a hamstring problem, while Monk must decide whether to recall Miguel Michu, who has been absent since November.
