Hodgson won't take Terry to World Cup

England manager Roy Hodgson has ruled out calling John Terry back into the national team for the summer’s World Cup, the Guardian has reported.

Terry’s form has led to suggestions the Chelsea captain should be restored to the international set-up after he retired from England duty in September 2012. Terry stepped away from the national team after he was charged by the FA for using racially abusive language towards Anton Ferdinand, having been cleared for a similar offence by a court of law.

But Hodgson has said that Terry’s retirement will stand. “John has retired,” Hodgson said. “As far as I'm concerned that is the situation.

“We've got along with him for the whole of the qualification, and quite a few friendly matches, and we'll have to get along without him in the future. As far as I'm concerned retirement is retirement.

“You respect that when players retire. We move on. We moved on after the first qualification game when John Terry limped off [against Moldova].

“Since that time we have got on with it and have chosen the players who are available, who have represented us well in my opinion and so we'll continue with that.”

Terry could opt to end his retirement and make himself available for Hodgson’s side, who play Denmark at Wembley on March 5.
