Diame reveals West Ham confidence
Thursday 13 February 2014
West Ham are brimming with confidence after pulling away from the Premier League relegation zone, Sky Sports has reported midfielder Mohamed Diame as revealing.
The Hammers beat Norwich City 2-0 on Tuesday night, their third straight victory after seeing off Aston Villa and Swansea City by the same score.
Sam Allardyce’s side are now 11th, four points clear of Sunderland, who are 18th.
Diame scored the second goal against the Canaries and says the run of victories has lifted the atmosphere at Upton Park.
“It's great for our confidence,” the former Wigan Athletic player said. “If you want to win games you have to make sure you are strong in defence and not concede goals.
“If you don't concede you can't lose, so the team is doing well. We need to keep going and stay focused on what we're doing to make sure this break before our next game doesn't stop the momentum.”
Prior to their treble of 2-0 wins West Ham had lost four of their last seven in the league and suffered a heavy defeat against Manchester City in the Capital One Cup semi-final.
But West Ham have now not conceded in their last four league games, the three straight 2-0 wins being preceded by a goalless draw with title-chasing Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
