Mata needs time to impress at Man Utd, says Rooney

Wayne Rooney has said that Manchester United’s new record signing, Juan Mata, needs to be given time to deliver his best form for the Premier League champions, the

Daily Star has reported.

Juan Mata

Mata joined Man Utd for a club record £37.1 in January, and has started every game for the club since, but has only been on the winning side once - the 2-0 victory over Cardiff City on his debut. Since then, David Moyes’ team have only picked up two points from fixtures against Stoke City, Fulham and Arsenal.

The Spaniard’s link-up play with Robin van Persie has been encouraging, as Mata has provided two assists for the striker, but while some say that he has been played out of position, Rooney believes that Mata needs time before he can prove his worth. He said: "It's exciting, Juan has come in and it's another world-class player to have in the squad.

"It'll take time - it can always take a little bit of time for every player to gel and to bond but we really hope we can all start scoring goals and help the team be successful."
