Man City vs Chelsea - Match preview and team news

Friday 14 February 2014

Less than two weeks after Jose Mourinho outfoxed Manuel Pellegrini at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League, the two sides meet again in the FA Cup.

Both clubs have an excellent FA Cup pedigree in recent seasons, with Man City lifting the trophy in 2011 and finishing as runners-up last season, and Chelsea emerging victorious in four of the last seven campaigns.

With their game at home Sunderland having been called off, Man City enter this fixture having failed to score in their previous two games, and with their recent defeat to the Blues still fresh in the memory. Nevertheless, they remain a fantastic side, as they have proved it so often under Pellegrini, but the Chilean must have considered a change of tactics to prevent a repeat of what happened just a matter of days ago.

Chelsea have beaten East Midlands duo Derby County and Stoke City to make it this far, and after his recent tactical masterclass in Manchester, Mourinho will be confident of doing it again. He will be looking for a response from his players too, as they missed their chance to stretch their lead at the top of the Premier League by conceding a late equaliser at West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday.

Man City are still without Sergio Aguero, Fernandinho and Samir Nasri, while Matija Nastasic and Javi Garcia are both doubtful.

John Terry is expected to return to the Chelsea starting line-up, but fellow defender Gary Cahill is a doubt after picking up a knock at West Brom.
