Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has conceded that his side lost to the better team on Saturday as Manchester City ran out 2-0 winners over the Blues in the FA Cup fifth round, BBC Sport is reporting.

A goal in either half from Man City saw them reach the quarter-finals and avenge their recent Premier League defeat to Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium. First, Stevan Jovetic shot in off a post moments after hitting the crossbar, with substitute Samir Nasri making the game safe on his return from injury with a tap-in from David Silva’s low cross.

And Mourinho, whose team failed to even register a shot on target throughout the match, admitted that the hosts deserved their victory, saying: "I don't say my team failed. I would say that City played much better than us and deserved much more to win. The game was simple to analyse - they were the best team, and they won."

"They were the best team and when the best team wins I think football is at peace. Two weeks ago, the best team won and this time the best team won.

"What happened in this tie gives more credit to my players because it proves it is difficult to win twice against City in a season, and to win here.’
