Newcastle United have opened preliminary negotiations with Loic Remy’s representatives as they look to make the striker’s season-long loan move from Queens Park Rangers permanent, reports the Newcastle Chronicle.

However, the Magpies are likely to face a major battle to secure the transfer, as several clubs are interested in signing Remy during the summer, including Arsenal, Paris St. Germain and Inter, with the Frenchman keen on playing Champions League football next season.

Two more of Newcastle’s Premier League rivals, Aston Villa and West Ham United, have also reportedly shown interest in Remy, who has found the net on a regular basis since arriving in England from Marseille in January 2013. For Alan Pardew’s side, he has managed 11 goals in 21 Premier League appearances.

QPR are understood to have decided on a £16m asking price for Remy, for whom the door will be open to return should the Loftus Road club be promoted.

A source close to Remy said: “Loic has enjoyed his time at Newcastle so far but is still undecided over what the future holds. At 27, he is eager to play his football and his peak years in the Champions League but he has not made a decision at this stage.”
