Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini believes his side’s Champions League opponents Barcelona are the best team in the world, ITV Sport has reported.

The teams meet on Tuesday in the second round of the Champions League and with Barca currently top of La Liga, Pellegrini feels the Catalans have no equals but still wants City to play a good game.

“I think Barcelona is the best team in the world, now and in the last five years,” the Chilean said. “We will try to win from the beginning,” he added. “We must be a very balanced team with our identity and our personality.”

Pellegrini went on to say that he feels City are a better side now than when the Champions League group stages ended in December. “When we lost against Bayern Munich at home everyone said we didn’t have the level to play in Europe,” the former Malaga Coach said.

“So I think that we are improving a little bit. From December to February, we are two months further on.”

Barca are level on points in La Liga with Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid but top the table on the basis of goal difference and the head-to-head record. City, meanwhile, are third in the Premier League, two points behind leaders Chelsea.
