Man City vs Barcelona - Match preview and team news

Barcelona travel to the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday as the Champions League returns for what looks set to be a cracking last 16 clash.

The hosts will carry great belief going into this encounter that they can beat any team in Europe, having come from 2-0 down to defeat Bayern Munich at the Alianz Arena in the final round of group stage matches back in December. That result made in 15 points from a possible 18 in Group D, and was perhaps evidence that the Citizens are ready to challenge for major honours on the European stage.

Domestically, Manuel Pellegrini’s men have just regained their composure, comfortably beating Chelsea in the FA Cup on Saturday to respond those who doubted them after two games without scoring. Here, Man City must be at their best, and they will feel that taking a lead into the second leg in Catalonia is essential.

The Spanish giants are top of La Liga, but only thanks to goal difference in what looks certain to be a three-horse race for the title, with the two Madrid clubs breathing down their necks on the same number of points. Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi will all undoubtedly prove a major threat to the Man City defence.

Fernandinho should return for Man City, and Samir Nasri could be handed his first start since January 12 after scoring on his return from injury. Sergio Aguero, however, is still out.

The away side may decide not to risk Neymar from the start, with the Brazilian having only just returned from injury. Jonathan Dos Santos is definitely out.
