Tottenham's Gomes in Leeds talks
Wednesday 19 February 2014
Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes is in talks with Championship side Leeds United, the Daily Mail has reported, with the Brazil international looking for a loan move to win a place in his country’s World Cup squad.
Gomes hasn’t played for Spurs this season and is third choice at White Hart Lane, behind Hugo Lloris and Brad Friedel. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim, the move ending early after Gomes broke his hand a month before the short-term contract was up.
A signing of almost £8m in 2008, Gomes previously played for PSV Eindhoven and has 11 caps for Brazil but hasn’t made an appearance since 2011.
Leeds were in talks with Stoke City over a move for Jack Butland earlier this week but manager Brian McDermott is said to have centred his attention on Gomes.
The Yorkshire club are currently 12th in the Championship, 25 points short of leaders Leicester City and eight points adrift of a play-off place, with Nottingham Forest in sixth.
