Arsenal winger Serge Gnabry has chosen to play for Germany at international level instead of the Ivory Coast, according to Sky Sports.

The 18-year-old has already played for Germany’s youth teams from under-16 level and looks set to continue with the senior side by declaring his intent to play for Joachim Low’s team.

Gnabry’s decision means that he has refused the chance to play for the Ivory Coast, a side he was eligible for due to his father Jean-Hermann Gnabry hailing from the African country.

“Since I have played for the Germany youth teams, it is no question for me that I want to play for Germany by any means,” said Gnabry.

“I hope that I can make the leap into the first team.”

The young forward has also admitted that if he wishes to opt for the country he was born in and play for Germany, then he must prove himself in London first by earning a regular first-team spot.

“I am fully focused on Arsenal in order to win minutes there,” added Gnabry.

“Because, to be honest, if that does not happen, making the national team will be extremely difficult. We will see what happens in the future.”
